God is Great!

Psalm 70 is today's Bible reading, written by David to be used at times of sacrifice to God. Notice especially verses 4 and 5:
May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you!
May those who love your salvation say evermore, "God is great!"
But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay!

We've gathered in the name of the God who is great, who rewards those who diligently seek him (Heb 11:6). He has made known to us the path of life; in his presence there is fullness of joy; at his right hand are pleasures forevermore (Psa 16:11).

Some of us have had a good past week. We're enjoying a pleasant season of life. We gather on this best day of the week with hearts full of joy and gladness. We're ready and eager to proclaim throughout the day, "God is great!"

Others of us have had a very tough week. We're passing through a dark, uncertain, challenging season of life. As we gather on this, the Lord's day, just about all our weary, unsettled hearts can muster is, "I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God!"

Whether you're on either extreme or somewhere in the middle, we're glad you're here. Whatever you're facing, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psa 46:1). What makes this the best day of the week? The fact that in Jesus' name we're drawing near to the throne of grace with confidence and professing together, "God is great!"
